A Surprise Vegan Find in Mannheim

Last week, I found myself in Mannheim, Germany, en route to Lyon. Exploring the city, I stumbled upon a charming café (the name escapes me) and inquired about nearby vegan dining options. To my delight, I discovered a few, including Vegana, an entirely vegan Vietnamese restaurant.

Finding Vegana: A Hidden Vegan Dining Option in Mannheim

Eager to find it, I embarked on a walk. Upon arrival, I was pleasantly surprised by its size. Located in the city center, Vegana is a large restaurant boasting two floors and an inviting outdoor seating area – ideal for vegan dining in Mannheim.

A Vegan Paradise: Exploring the Menu

A friendly staff member seated me and offered a menu. Opening it was like stepping into a vegan paradise, with more options than I had ever seen in one place. After careful consideration, I chose a coconut curry sauce with pumpkin and vegetables, served with sesame rice and crispy seitan-duck, accompanied by a glass of white wine.

Soaking in the Atmosphere

The wine arrived promptly, allowing me to soak up the vibrant atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally friendly and spoke English, a bonus given my limited German vocabulary.

A Feast for the Senses

When the food arrived, it was a feast for the eyes, as shown in the picture. The colorful and well-presented dish featured a lid on the curry to keep it hot. The rice was perfectly sticky and flavorful, far from bland. The curry itself was a delightful blend of coconut and mild spice, with vegetables cooked to perfection. The crispy seitan duck, encased in a breadcrumb batter, was both flavorful and aesthetically pleasing.

Wrapping Up a Memorable Experience

I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. After the meal, I went inside to pay as was using a card (which is quite common in Europe). The interior was impeccably clean and exuded a calming atmosphere, with tasteful decorations. as I had to visit restroom I got to view the spacious and similarly decorated upstairs.

Conclusion

All in all, my visit to Vegana was an amazing end to a long day of travel, leaving me eager to return to this vegan haven in Mannheim.
