I’ve just spent a week in Mexico City, staying in Roma Norte, and I don’t say this lightly. I’ve never been anywhere with this much vegan food in my life. And I’ve travelled a lot.
Every corner I turned, there was another fully vegan café, a plant-based taco stall, or some gorgeous little bakery offering vegan croissants. Yes, vegan croissants. I struggle to find those in the UK, and yet here I was in Mexico, eating flaky, buttery layers like it was no big deal.
There was vegan Mexican food, vegan Italian food, Asian dishes, comfort food, brunch food. Roma Norte didn’t feel like a place with vegan options. It felt like a place made for vegans. If you’re heading to Mexico City and wondering where to base yourself, this is your sign.
Here are some of the best places I found to eat vegan in Roma Norte.
Por Siempre Vegana (Taco Stand & Taquería)
Por Siempre Vegana started as a street taco stand and now also has a sit-down taquería nearby. Both are fully vegan, both are brilliant. The stand has that quick, messy, flavour-packed feel, while the taquería lets you sit down and take your time. Either way, you’ll eat well.
What to order: Pastor tacos, gringas, and anything with cheese
Where:
Taco Stand: Calle Manzanillo 10, Roma Norte
Taquería: Calle Manzanillo 21, Roma Norte
Taquería La Caifanita
Just a few doors down from the Por Siempre taco stand, this tiny, wall-embedded counter is a proper local gem. No seats, no frills, just simple vegan food served hot. Their tofu breakfast burrito made me very happy. Affordable, quick, and full of flavour.
What to order: Tofu breakfast burrito, tacos, and daily specials
Where: Calle Manzanillo 14, Roma Norte
Forever Vegano
Right next to the Por Siempre taco stand, this bright little spot serves breakfast bowls, smoothies, wraps, and light mains. All vegan. If you want something a bit more brunchy or refreshing, this is your place.
What to order: Breakfast burrito, smoothie bowl, anything with tofu
Where: Calle Manzanillo 10, Roma Norte
Vegamo MX
A gorgeous indoor-outdoor space with a big vegan menu that mixes Mexican favourites with comfort food and pastries. I still can’t get over the croissants. It’s somewhere you can eat slowly and linger a bit.
What to order: Croissant sandwiches, vegan tiramisu, enchiladas
Where: Córdoba 148, Roma Norte

La Pitahaya Vegana
Small space, bold food. Handmade pink tortillas, mole, salsas, fresh veg. The pink tacos are worth going for on their own. Fully vegan and genuinely creative.
What to order: Mole tacos in pink tortillas
Where: Calle de Querétaro 90, Roma Norte
Plantasia
More of a sit-down dinner spot, with gorgeous decor and an entirely plant-based Asian-fusion menu. Good for a date night or just when you want something more polished.
What to order: Curry udon, kimchi dumplings, bao buns
Where: Sinaloa 61, Roma Norte
Búnker Vegano
Burgers, loaded fries, sauces, and huge portions. It’s casual and satisfying and makes no apologies for being heavy. If you want junk food, go here.
What to order: Cheeseburger and fries
Where: Jalapa 278, Roma Sur (just over the Roma Norte line)
Mari Gold
A calming space with breakfast plates, Indian-inspired dishes, and coffee. Not fully vegan, but loads of options clearly marked and beautifully presented.
What to order: Banana pancakes, chutney bowls, or the vegan breakfast
Where: Chiapas 173, Roma Norte
Panadería Rosetta
Not a vegan bakery, but they do offer vegan croissants and bread, and they are gorgeous. There’s usually a queue, but it’s worth it. Easily one of the best croissants I’ve had, anywhere.
What to order: Vegan croissant
Where: Colima 179, Roma Norte
Vegan Options Everywhere
One of the things that really stood out was how many non-vegan places still offered vegan options. I could walk into almost any café, ask for something vegano, and more often than not they’d bring out a whole separate vegan menu. Even spots that weren’t plant-based had things like vegan croissants, pastries, and cake. It wasn’t a big deal. It was just normal. And that made it so much easier, and more fun, to eat out.
Final Thoughts
Roma Norte blew me away. I wasn’t just eating well, I was spoiled for choice. I found vegan versions of everything I love, and a few things I didn’t even know I wanted.
If you’re heading to Mexico City and wondering where to base yourself, Roma Norte is the spot. From tacos and tamales to tiramisu and croissants, there’s more than enough here to keep you full, excited, and very, very happy.
